Level 2 LAN/WAN Engineer
These resources will be operational engineers who will be implementing the migration.
**The purpose of the responsible party is to plan, migrate, install, maintain and support WAN & LAN/WLAN "client" World Wide.
Excellent technical knowledge of Cisco infrastructure Switches and Routers and Cisco Wireless infrastructure. Understanding of DNS, DHCP, and active directory infrastructure. Excellent understanding of Ethernet-based networks with an excellent understanding of the OSI model and TCP/IP protocols, traffic shaping, and acceleration, VOIP. Excellent command of English spoken and written language.
- Maintenance and support (level1,2,3) operational support personnel for WAN & LAN/WLAN switches
- Work actively in projects, fulfill tasks and milestones within requested time frames and act as a technical consultant within his/her technical expertise
- Evaluate, plan, install, move and setup of WAN & LAN/WLAN for Alcon World Wide
- Troubleshooting all WAN & LAN/WLAN related issues World Wide
- Collaborate with GIS engineering on network standards
Preferred: 4 + years with WAN & LAN/WLAN routing, switching, QOS, VOIP working with complex network environments
Minimum: Apprenticeship in IT or business, CCNA, CCNP
Preferred: Apprenticeship in IT or business, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE and higher scholarships/university degree in electrical engineering and or networking
Extensive experience with LAN/WAN – Routing/Switching
Cisco Certification in CCNA / CCNP highly preferred. If they do not have certifications, at least 4-5 years of experience
Identify and troubleshoot hardware and software technical problems related to LANs/WANs
Monitor and control infrastructure performance in the areas of response, throughput, and availability.
Plans, implements, and maintains wireless LAN/WAN hardware
Documents resolutions and follows approved change processes
Maintains and supports protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement.
Handles escalation issues, configuration changes, and troubleshooting
Applicant must have proven ability to develop efficient and effective processes.
Analytical thought required to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, without supervision.
4+ years’ experience in network engineering duties
Advanced knowledge in LAN, WAN and wireless networking communications
Advanced knowledge of hardware, network operating systems and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with implementing firewall rules
Ability to analyze network design, architecture, protocols, topology, configuration, and provisioning platforms
Proficient knowledge of support systems for network management and element management systems
Strong practical working experience with routing and switching technologies
Extensive hands-on experience with Cisco Wireless Access points, Cisco wireless controllers, point to point access bridges and related technologies
Proficient knowledge of protocols such as RIPv2, OSPF, OSPF-TE, IS-IS, IS-IS-TE, BGP, MPLS and SIP
Good communication skills
